Over 20 Years in the Making

Regents Review 2.0 is ready to make a big splash in getting students ready for their upcoming Regents exams.  But don’t think for one minute that it all started overnight.  This years’ program series is actually a spin-off of the original, award winning test-prep series, Regents Review Live!.

The Early Years…
The concept for the original series began in the 1980’s when the Rockland Teacher Center began working with a local television cable company in Ossining, New York in putting together a handful of Regents exam test prep programs that would help students in their district study for the exams.  The program was called Regents Review Live! Teachers used a traditional chalkboard, and answered questions that were phoned in from students who were watching the program at home.
Regents Review Live! was an instant success, and after airing in the lower Hudson Valley for a few short years, plans were made to make the series available to every high school student in the state.

Coming into its’ own…
In 1991, The Teacher Centers of New York State enlisted the help of The New York Network in using it's Mobile Satellite Uplink Truck to broadcast the series to cable companies, statewide. The response was overwhelming, and as the series grew, so did the need for a bigger television production and transmission facility.

In 1993, the series traveled north to the studios of the New York Network in Albany, New York, and that’s where it stayed.  Partnering with The Teacher Centers, Regents Review Live! expanded its’ television distribution, added up to date production elements, and continued to answer hundreds of call-in questions. In 1999, a web component was added to give students the opportunity to e-mail their questions as well.

A New Beginning…

2010 marks the beginning of a new era for the series, starting with a new name.  Why the new title? Good question. With the enormous popularity of both the DVR and the internet, we dropped the “live” call-in format and instead turned to the internet for student/teacher interactivity.

The Regents Review 2.0 web site has totally been re-tooled to use video clips, test taking tips, and social media to bring a whole new dimension to the regents review experience.  The series also has a new and committed partner in the Association of Public Broadcasting (APBS).  Working closely with New York Network, APBS is distributing the series and all of its resources to classrooms, libraries and homes, all across New York State.

20 years later, Regents Review 2.0 continues the proud tradition of:

"Making a difference when it matters the most!"
