U.S. History and Government
Teacher:
Karen Ferris-Fearnside, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School,
Burnt Hills
A Social Studies teacher for 31 years
and currently teaching Global Studies 10 and A.P.U.S. History 11 at
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.
Coaches a team for the "We the People Program" which is
a debate
team for the Bill of Rights. The team has attended the state competition since
1990.
Professional commitments include being on the Board of Directors
for the Capital District Council for the Social Studies since 1990,
being a Table Leader at the A.P.U.S. History reading, being a member of
the Test Development Committee for A.P.U.S. History from 1992-1996 and occasionally
developing tests and grading them for the State of New
York since 1987.
She has been chosen by her students to be the recipient
of the Golub Award 9 times since 1989. She's a recipient of the General Electric Star Award 7
times, Who's Who Among America's High School Teachers every year since
1994, and was voted the Capital District Social Studies Teacher of the
Year in 2000.
