Living Environment (Biology)
Teacher: Diana Shanty, Scotia-Glenville H.S.
Diana has been teaching Biology at Scotia Glenville high
school for 14 years. She has also taught Earth Science and
Chemistry.
She received her B.S. from Siena College in Loudonville N.Y. and a
masters in Education from the College of St Rose. She attended Cornell
Institute for Biology teachers, a 3 -week molecular biology program
sponsored by a grant from the Howard Hughes Institute.
She recently designed a 2-year Living Environment class
for students needing extra assistance. The course is team taught with a
special education teacher.
The success rate on the Living
Environment Exam since the programs inception 6 years ago is 99%. She has
lectured at Union College on the benefits of such a program for students
with learning disabilities.
Enjoys skydiving, scuba-diving, and skiing. Traveled
around the world, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, London and France.
